Appalachia Cooperates Initiative presents, Unleash Potential with Cooperative Management Practices, offered by Daniella Mostow. Daniella will discuss the advantage cooperatives have operating under the principle of “voluntary and open membership”. Cooperatives agree to a set of principles, the first of which is “voluntary and open membership.” The principle states that anyone who can use the services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership should be allowed to voluntarily join the cooperative. Yet, this open membership principle contradicts current corporate business practices, where firms try to find the “best talent” to compete in their industry. This workshop will help participants understand how the cooperative principle of “voluntary and open membership” can become an advantage for any business or team.
